Why is my 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S leaking power-steering fluid and losing steering assist?

A customer brought in a 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S with stiff steering and fluid loss. We found leaks at the pump shaft and hose fitting. We replaced the power-steering pump and high-pressure hose. That brought the steering assist back.
