Why is my Mini Cooper Countryman showing an engine-temperature warning?

Expert companyLouisville, KentuckyIf the engine-temperature warning comes on, pull over safely and turn off the engine rather than continuing to drive. In the Mini Cooper Countryman we documented, coolant loss came from deteriorated seals in the oil-filter-housing assembly. We replaced the housing and seals, primed the oil system, refilled and bled the cooling system, changed the oil, pressure-tested the system, and confirmed stable operating temperature on a road test.
